# Network time (SNTP/NTP settings)

The gateway will not operate without a correct time and date information. This information is obtained by the gateway from a SNTP/NTP server. All NTP communication is performed on port 123.

If the gateway is connected to a network with internet access (i.e. “Boomerang in the Cloud”), you can leave the settings as they are with default NTP server set to pool.ntp.org.

In case of a local network with a Boomerang-on-premise and no internet access, the local IT must define the SNTP/NTP server address the gateway can access and this setting must be changed in the gateway.

Click on “System Configuration”->”Network Time”, enter and save a new server address. The timezone offset must be always set to 0 as the Boomerang server expects all the readings to be delivered with time stamps using UTC time zone.
