# Putty

PuTTY is an serial port, SSH and telnet client, developed originally by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code and is developed and supported by a group of volunteers.

Putty must be installed on a PC which may require acceptance from a local IT personnel.

The links to Putty download can be found at <https://www.putty.org/>.

1. Install the application.
2. Run Putty.
3. Enter the IP of the host and select connection type. If you select Serial then select the com port and baud rate.

4. Click "Open".

Terminal window is opened.

5. Enter the [Default user and password](/tools-for-sbc-products/default-user-and-password.md).

6. Now you have access to the Linux console.
