# Create category
Only administrators can create document categories.
Categories are shared folders in [Documents](https://help.boomerang3.com/boomerang-3-user-manual/documents).

### Select the scope
Select the scope where the category should be available.
Depending on your rights, select a system group, division, and/or group.

### Create the category
Click **Create category**.

### Name the category
Enter the category name.

### Create and sign
Click **Create** and complete the signature form. See [Sign](https://help.boomerang3.com/boomerang-3-user-manual/common_elements/sign).
The category is shown in the list.

### Return to the list
Click **Back**.
