# Sign

Signing confirms a change or action in the system. It provides traceability and an audit trail.

### When signing is required

Signing is required for changes that affect system state.

Examples:

* changing user settings (such as email)
* measuring point calibration adjustments
* alarm acceptance and signing

The system stores the signing history in the database.

### User Signature form

When signing is required, the **User Signature** form opens.

If PIN is enabled for the system group and for your user, the form looks like this:

### Sign an action

### Enter credentials

Enter your username and password.

If PIN is enabled and selected, enter your PIN instead.

### Add a comment (recommended)

Add a short comment that explains the reason.

An administrator can make comments mandatory for a system group.

### Confirm

Click **Sign**.

Boomerang confirms when the change is completed.
