# Remove group

If a group contains items like subgroups, objects, or alarm groups then it cannot be removed and the items belonging to the group must be removed first.

1. Click the Edit ![](/files/blTTfPQPSw2hqUj76ftw) icon to edit the group settings.

2. Click “Remove”.

3. Click “Remove” again and sign.
4. The group shall be removed from the system.

A removed group is not deleted but is moved from active to inactive groups. It cannot be restored from there but can be viewed as described in [View inactive groups](/boomerang-3-domain-administrator-manual/admin/organisation/organisation__groups/view-inactive-groups.md).
