General

The GSM modem used shall be approved and verified for usage with the Boomerang application.

Setup/Change GSM/SMS settings

Tic the “Enabled” check box to enable the GSM unit.

Select the serial port that the GSM unit is connected to.

Enter SIM pin code.

Enter message prefix, if you want to have a fixed text in every SMS.

In “Ping timeout” you may define additional time the application will wait for connection to GSM modem.

Click “Apply” and sign.

A dialog shall be displayed momentarily.

If the settings are correct and the GSM modem is operational, the signal strength bar shall appear with the signal level given in dBm.

If signal strength is low, the bar color will be yellow or red. If signal level is too low the position of the modem must be adjusted to secure correct SMS transmission. Correct level shall be on the green bar.

SMS test message

To send a test SMS, enter a mobile number to send message to in “Test Message” and click “Send to:” button. The message shown below shall be displayed momentarily.

If the test SMS was sent correctly, the following message shall be shown.

Check prepaid balance

If a Prepaid SIM card is used, this field may be used to check funds balance. Get the code for the balance check from your GSM provider, enter it into the field and click ‘Check balance’. A message with the balance will be displayed.

Please note that using a prepaid card is not recommended because the alarm SMS’es may be not delivered due to lack of the funds.
