Short description

The BBOB is creates a buffered link between up to 4 BBOs and a Boomerang 3 system. The unit is based on Mikrotik Hex router (RB750) running Open WRT router software. There is a dedicated BBOB application running under Open WRT, that performs all the BBOB functions.

The BBOB can be used only with BBO with firmware v.2.26 and higher (with NTP).

An example infrastructure is shown below:

If B3 server confirms the POSTs from BBOs the BBO Buffer just relays them and is transparent to traffic. If B3 stops confirming, BBOB stores the POSTs locally on its SD card, confirms the transmissions to BBOs and checks if B3 is back online. After B3 recovery it transmits all stored POSTs and current BBO transmissions in parallel.

If there are 4 BBOs with 10 sensors each sending the readings every minute BBOB equipped with a standard 8GB SD card can back up the measurements for approx. 4 months.

The BBOB configuration is stored in config.txt file on SD card which can be edited if configuration needs to be modified as described in chapter Error! Reference source not found..

Data are sent to B3 server in XML format via a POST. The B3 server needs to acknowledge the received POST by sending a POST back reply confirming the reception. All messages sent from or to BBOB are stored in a log file on SD card as described in chapter 3.3.2.
